After a standout performance at last year’s Carifta Games, where Trinidad and Tobago’s Track and Field team secured an impressive 25-medal haul, attention now turns to the upcoming championships in Grenada.

TTT Sport caught up with Head Coach, Michelle Alleyne‑Pennie, who described the 2026 squad as an exciting mix of talent and experience, as she shared her assessment of the team’s readiness.

Here's more in this story…

The Carifta Games have always been a proving ground for emerging track and field talent across the Caribbean. For many young athletes, it represents their first exposure to large-scale regional competition and an opportunity to announce their arrival on the international stage.

Heading into this year’s championships in Grenada, the Trinidad and Tobago team, are prime ready to make their mark. At the 2025 edition, the national team produced an impressive 25-medal haul, and its Head Coach, Michelle Alleyne-Pennie, said expectations are once again high.

Alleyne-Pennie said special attention has been placed on preparing the relay teams.

With last year’s games hosted at home, the Head Coach was asked about the adjustment to competing away from home soil, particularly for newcomers to the team.

Alleyne-Pennie also commended the work of local club coaches, noting that their preparation has played a key role in shaping the readiness of the national squad heading into the Games.

The Girls Under-20 200 meter final at CARIFTA 2026 turned into a complete Shanoya Douglas masterclass.

The Jamaican sprint star stormed to gold in 22.11 seconds (+1.9), setting a new CARIFTA championship record and delivering one of the most dominant performances of the entire meet. The official CARIFTA results on World Athletics list Douglas as the winner in 22.11 with Jamaica’s Natrece East second in 23.39 and Haiti’s Breanne Barnett third in 23.49.

And what makes this performance even more impressive is that this wasn’t random form — Douglas had already been on a tear coming into CARIFTA. Just a week earlier, World Athletics reported that she ran a world U20-leading 22.36 at the Jamaican Boys and Girls Championships, confirming she entered this meet in elite sprint shape. Her World Athletics profile also shows a 22.58 personal best on record, underlining how serious her 2026 season has been.

In this video, I break down:

How Shanoya Douglas completely separated from the field
Why this was more than just a win
Jamaica’s huge 1-2 finish with Natrece East
Breanne Barnett’s strong bronze-medal run for Haiti
And what this result means for the rest of the season

Because this wasn’t just a championship performance…

this was a statement to the entire sprint world.
Final Results

🥇 Shanoya Douglas (Jamaica) — 22.11 CR
🥈 Natrece East (Jamaica) — 23.39
🥉 Breanne Barnett (Haiti) — 23.49
4️⃣ Saige Demeritte (Bahamas) — 23.68
5️⃣ Noemi Theodore (Trinidad & Tobago) — 23.79
6️⃣ Kayla Charles (Trinidad & Tobago) — 23.86
7️⃣ Alexis Roberts (Bahamas) — 24.05
DNS — Aniya Nurse (Barbados)

Drop your thoughts below 👇
Was Shanoya Douglas always winning this final… or did she exceed even the hype?

And can anybody in the Caribbean stop her right now?

The Girls Under-20 4x100 meter relay final at CARIFTA 2026 turned into a strong championship performance from Jamaica, as they clocked 43.76 to take gold over Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados.

From the first leg to the anchor, Jamaica looked like the most complete team in the field.

Their quartet of Renecia Edwards, Tiana Marshall, Natrece East, and Shanoya Douglas combined raw speed, control, and clean baton execution to get the job done when the pressure was highest.

But this race was not a runaway.

Trinidad and Tobago stayed in the fight all the way through, finishing second in 44.17, while Barbados and Bahamas battled right to the line for the bronze medal.

In this video, I break down:

How Jamaica controlled the race
Why Trinidad and Tobago still ran a very strong final
The tight bronze-medal battle
Which relay exchanges made the biggest difference
And why this final was won on more than just pure sprint speed

Because when it comes to the 4x100…

one clean exchange can be the difference between gold and going home disappointed.
Final Results

🥇 Jamaica – 43.76
🥈 Trinidad and Tobago – 44.17
🥉 Barbados – 45.40
4️⃣ Bahamas – 45.44
5️⃣ Grenada – 47.77

Emmile Higgins of the Bahamas delivered a huge performance in the Boys Under-17 200 meter final, winning gold in 20.94 seconds with a legal +0.5 wind.

But this race was MUCH closer than the time suggests.

Mario Ross of Jamaica pushed all the way to the line and finished second in 21.00, just 0.06 seconds behind the win, while Zion Bradford secured bronze in a stacked and chaotic finish.

From 3rd to 7th place, the field was separated by just 0.15 seconds, making this one of the most competitive youth sprint finals of the meet.

Full breakdown, race reaction, and why this performance matters for Caribbean sprinting.

Results:

🥇 Emmile Higgins (Bahamas) — 20.94
🥈 Mario Ross (Jamaica) — 21.00
🥉 Zion Bradford (Bahamas) — 21.54

Event Record:

🏆 Odean Skeene (Jamaica) — 20.84 (2010)

Was this the breakout race of a future star?

The Boys Under-20 4x400 meter relay final at CARIFTA 2026 delivered one of the most dramatic races of the entire meet…

because this final had speed, pressure, a championship record, and one brutal twist at the end.

In the end, Barbados came away with the gold after running a massive 3:05.49, setting a new Championship Record and finishing like a team that knew exactly how to handle the biggest moment.

But this race was far from easy.

Because Jamaica was right there.

For much of the race, Jamaica stayed in the fight and looked like a serious threat to take over, eventually finishing with silver in 3:06.79 after pushing Barbados all the way through the closing stages.

And then came the biggest shock of all…

the Bahamas got disqualified.

That changed everything.

Because based on time, they would have run 3:07.28 and been right in the medal mix — but one relay error turned a potential podium into heartbreak.

In this video, I break down:

How Barbados won this race late
Why Jamaica made this a real championship battle
How Trinidad & Tobago grabbed bronze
Why the Bahamas DQ completely changed the final
And what this race says about the next generation of Caribbean quarter-milers

Because in the 4x400…

you don’t just need speed — you need order, composure, and a team that can close under pressure.
Final Results

🥇 Barbados — 3:05.49 CR
🥈 Jamaica — 3:06.79
🥉 Trinidad & Tobago — 3:10.64
4️⃣ Grenada — 3:13.07
5️⃣ Guyana — 3:13.67
6️⃣ Saint Kitts & Nevis — 3:20.01
❌ Bahamas — DQ (would have run 3:07.28)

The Girls Under-20 4x400 meter relay final at CARIFTA 2026 delivered a strong championship performance from Jamaica, who ran 3:34.03 to take gold in convincing fashion.

From the early stages of the race, Jamaica looked like the most complete team in the field — composed, balanced, and fully in control when it mattered most.

But while Jamaica handled business up front…

the real drama happened behind them.

The Bahamas stayed solid all race to take silver in 3:37.92, while Barbados produced one of the best late pushes of the final to storm back and grab bronze in 3:40.68.

That late medal battle made this race much more interesting than the final times alone might suggest.

In this video, I break down:

How Jamaica controlled the race
Why Bahamas stayed strong for silver
How Barbados came back for bronze
Where Trinidad & Tobago lost the podium
And why relay races are often won with rhythm, not just speed

Because in the 4x400…

you don’t just need talent — you need timing, poise, and the ability to finish.
Final Results

🥇 Jamaica — 3:34.03
🥈 Bahamas — 3:37.92
🥉 Barbados — 3:40.68
4️⃣ Trinidad & Tobago — 3:43.30
5️⃣ Grenada — 4:02.53
