Storage unit turned drug lab, police say; legal questions emerge for property owners
Last week, we told you about Operation Spring Cleaning, where the Indian River County Sheriff's Office made numerous drug arrests.
Sheriff's officials identified Emmanuel Trinidad as one of the most significant individuals who was allegedly involved in illegal drug activity.
They found large amounts of cash and illegal drugs in his apartment and also in a storage unit 13th Lane near Vero Beach where they say he had ingredients from China and pill pressing devices that he used to manufacture pills in the storage unit.
Investigators recovered approximately 460,000 counterfeit pills from Trinidad’s residence, along with nearly 500 pounds of binding materials capable of producing an estimated 600,000 additional pills.
That made us wonder, under Florida law, does a landlord who owns storage units have a responsibility to observe or monitor what's going on in a unit in case someone chooses to engage in illegal activity there?
